Q & A Consumer Fireworks

Q&A Consumer Fireworks

How old do you have to be to purchase Consumer Fireworks?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          In Canada, federal regulations require that you must be 18 year of age or older to purchase Consumer Fireworks.

How do I find out if I'm allowed to use consumer fireworks in my town/city/location?

Each city has different regulations for allowing the public to light Consumer Fireworks, for details check your cities “Fireworks By-Law”, you can usually download copy of this from your City’s or          Town’s Website.

If my city does not all ow me to fire Consumer Fireworks on a specific day is there a way that I can still have Fireworks for my event?

Yes you can always apply for a permit to have a Fireworks Display; you can do this yourself or contract a licensed Fireworks Supervisor.

How do I safely store my Consumer Fireworks, until I can use them?

  • store your fireworks in a cool, dry place and keep them away flames, always make sure children do not have access to this location.
  • A maximum of 10kg can be stored in a dwelling, any larger amount must be stored in a separate locked building

If I can’t use my fireworks as planned, can I save them for later?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Fireworks have a shelf life of many years as long as they are stored properly, away from dampness, humidity or moisture. Unfortunately even in dry conditions, chemical degradation may eventually result in less vivid colours or a slightly lower shooting height.

Can I use Consumer Fireworks inside?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                No, Consumer Fireworks are not safe to be used inside, they must be used outside following the safety directions on each product.

Can we allow children to light fireworks with supervision?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             No children are not allowed to light fireworks until they are 18 years or older

What do I do if I light my firework and it doesn’t go off?

Do not approach for 30 mins, then put in a bucket of water or soak completely until morning. Never try to relight a firework that did not go off and never try and fix a damaged or defective firework.

  • Double wrap soaked fireworks in plastic wrap or plastic bags so they do not dry out.
